Who should be responsible for the conservation of Phewa Lake ?

Who should be responsible for the conservation of Phewa Lake is a big question of this time. Is it Pokhara Sub-metropolitan City Office or District Development Committee?
Both institutions don’t cover the whole area. Pokhara Sub-metropolitan City Office covers only the city area and District Development Covers only the Village areas in the water shed area of Phewa Lake. Or May be we should form an Autonomous body, including all government sectors, private sectors, non-governmental organization and public.

What if any local person or any Donor agency comes to donate for development of Phewa Lake, where would they go?

What if any local person or any Donor agency comes to donate for development of Phewa Lake, where would they go?Is it Metropolitan city Office? Village Development Committee Office? Or Any Private Company?

As we have already seen works done with partnership of JICA with Pokhara Sub Metropolitan City Office within 3 years of Project. How much they have worked for the development of Phewa Lake and what are the changes seen in Phewa Lake with the 3 years project ending in end of March 2007?

We still don’t have an Act for the conservation of Lake in Nepal

Shall we put enough pressure to the concern Ministries and wait till they make an Act for Lake Conservation or we should start on our own in local level to make necessary Acts for the conservation of Lake like Phewa Lake.

How do you think we can solve this problem in the long run?

The road to Paame has helped a lot to people living in and around that area from transporting local materials to market and other purposes. As time passes on, people from the surrounding will come down to the road side doing business as tea shops, restaurants and many more. The waste generated from these businesses will be left to pass on thePhewa Lake making the Lake polluted even that before. How do you think we can solve this problem in the long run?

The concrete houses built around the Phewa Lake and the land encroachment has diminished the beauty of Lake. Who do you think should be responsible for the construction and encroachment? The local government, house owners or the society.
